Behind-the-Scenes

"Whilst visiting Berlin (with my late friend Sheri) in 2012, I perchance discovered the Kabarett der Namenlosen (or Cabaret of the Nameless) and was instantly intrigued by the title alone. Originally created by Jewish Conférencier, Eric ‘Elow’ Lowinsky’ in 1926, Kabarett der Namenlosen was infamous for presenting only the worst possible talent, in order to satisfy the perverted pleasures of a cruel audience.

The Cabaret was very successful and popular at the time and was mentioned in Erich Kästner's "Fabian". But I wanted to offer something dreamier and poetic by fusing some of my influences such as Fashion, Cinema and Theatre. I had no idea what would happen and how people would respond. I was TERRIFIED of failure. So I began my research into the 1920’s in Berlin and discovered so much source material: beautiful music, interesting characters, hypnotising art, strange films and intriguing mysteries never to be solved. I wandered the streets of Berlin. I learned German. I sold what i could to survive... and i did survive.

The final result was more than I could ever have hoped for and the show has developed into something really special and unique with the dedication and passion of the talented cast and support from friends and loved ones. Now in our 8th season, we are still inspiring our audiences and paying homage to a truly spellbinding  period in history which still resonates with us today. It has been the most wonderful (and traumatic) journey of my life but by following my own instincts and believing in my abilities, anything is possible and the rewards are absolutely worth the work".
